Conservation of the Tucumán Amazon in Bolivia

My name is Raúl Rojas Llanos, and I coordinate the Bi-national Project for the Conservation of the Tucumán Amazon (Amazona Tucumana) in Bolivia, or “Loro Alisero” in Spanish.  In 2008 we benefited from the support provided by Birders’ Exchange by receiving bird guides, a telescope and backpacks, which were a huge help to our environmental education efforts in the rural communities of the Yungas Australes of South America.

The equipment donated by Birder’s Exchange continues to be used today in research about the biological reproduction of the Tucumán Amazon.  We are also carrying out an investigation on illegal trade of parrots, with the goal of stopping this activity which is seriously affecting wild populations of Psittacidae in Bolivia.
